I painted this as a concept for a larger commission. It is tall and narrow to hang on thinner spaces such as between doors or on staircase landings. The palm tree provides nominal shade for the thinker who finally couldn't take the heat and needed to cool off. Her footprints lead to the beach and her hat is lying near the surf on the right edge of the painting.
Mike Jenkins has been waterlogged since the summer he was born. Mike Jenkins' Granddad was a sailor. His Dad was a charter boat captain. This is why Mike Jenkins paints boats, beaches, birds, beasts and the occasional portrait. Most of Mike's inspiration for painting comes from God and the sea. Mike started drawing and painting in the early 1970s. Mike's mentor was Sidney E King who painted nearly 200 murals for the National Park Service and the largest Mural painted in the USA. Later Mike studied with Kristopher Meadows, one of the most inspiring portrait painters in the southeast and an honors graduate of the Savannah College of Arts and Design.
